Blair was born last night, March 20th, at 7:27pm, weighing a surprising 7lbs, 8oz. She and Colleen are doing quite well and I am writing this email while looking at a new mom lovingly holding her baby.
We had a long day yesterday, that began with a scheduled labor induction due to the purported size of the baby (predicted to be 10+ lbs). After many hours worth of effort, the doctors recommended a cesarean procedure to get the baby out in the least traumatic way possible. Neither Colleen nor the baby were ever in any harm or duress, but based on all information available, we had quite the big baby in there and she was not overly eager to come out on her own.
Everyone at Beaumont has been terrific. They had the baby out in a short amount of time and Colleen and I were able to hold her within minutes of delivery. The gestational diabetes doesn’t appear to have had any effect, as Blair needed no special treatment after delivery and her blood-sugar levels were well within normal range.
Blair’s grandparents, Jon and Judy Gillingham, Frank Wade, and Nancy Wade were able to immediately visit us in recovery. Blair’s aunt and uncle, Michael and Shannon Ostrander, aunt Susan Gladwin, and great-grandmother ‘Nan’, were able to visit us soon thereafter. We were also able to get word of her delivery and a few early pictures to Colleen’s brother Paul who is serving in Afghanistan.
Colleen and I feel like the luckiest people in the world. Our daughter is beautiful (thank God she takes after her mom) and is doing very well.

Thank you to everyone for all of your love and support in the past, the present, and the future.

Congratulations! Love, Aunt Jean & Uncle Mike
