This webpage is for Colleen, Chase, and Blair to share photos, memories, and fun times with our family and friends.
We hope that you enjoy our musings and will check back often.
Thank you for everyone's love and support as we continue our family's journey. Read more...
Blair’s Aunt Beverly made a special blanket for her to use at Grandma Nancy’s house. It’s soft, cuddly, and (most importantly) says “I love Grandma” all over it! Blair tested out this beautiful blanket today and as you can see, she loves it! It’s so thoughtful of you to make this for Blair, and I know she (and Nancy) will use it often. Thank you Aunt Beverly!
I love books and hope Blair will be equally enthusiastic about reading. Chase and I read to her often, especially at bedtime. Some her favorites include DUCK for President (thanks Dan & Lenore!) and anything by Sandra Boynton (thanks Doris!). This summer, Blair and I have made several trips to the local library and even enrolled in their summer reading program. Today we turned in her completed list (singing songs, reading stories, watching a puppet show, etc.) for a special prize pack. She’s a little young for the Cheez-Its but the beach ball and Cookie Monster book are a big hit. Congratulations Baby Blair!
Whew! It’s been a long week, but today Blair is finally chipper enough for her 4 month (amateur) photo shoot. I’m not a great photographer, Blair’s smile makes the job much easier! Anyway, it must be hard work to be so adorable because she fell asleep in the middle of our session. So… we will resume later, but these pics were too cute. I had to share with you asap!
P.S. Larger versions of these pics are posted to our Flickr Photostream on the right.
I sing to Blair all the time. She loves music. We sing about itsy-bitsy spiders, bunnies bopping field mice, skinamarinks, some lady who’ll be coming ‘round the mountain whenever she feels like it, and plenty of other made up melodies. Good or bad, Blair has even started using a special “screeching voice” when she wants to sing along. Hopefully, that’s not exactly what she thinks I sound like! Anyway, it’s quite possible she will sing well before she talks.
So today, we went to the local library for a kids concert. As usual, our social butterfly was fascinated by the sight and sounds of so many other kids. Musician Bill Donahue introduced the little ones to everything from Beethoven to Elvis. Everybody on the whole cell block – even Blair – danced to the jailhouse rock. We had a great time!
Blair had her 4 month checkup yesterday as I previous noted. While her growth and development were just fine, the downside was that she needed to get some shots of vaccines. I don’t like shots, kids hate shots, and babies despise shots with a cataclysmic passion. Needless to say, Blair was fussy throughout the day yesterday and we had a very long night. There is nothing more heart wrenching than when your infant is looking at you almost apologetically with the look of “please make the pain stop daddy”.
So once the fever started last night we called our doctor’s office to double check that everything was normal and ask what, if anything, we should watch out for in terms of escalating symptoms of vaccine side effects. After about 30 minutes, the on-call doctor finally calls back and refutes the type of thermometer and method of taking Blair’s temperature that our primary care physician recommended. Did I mention that they are in practice together? Anyways, after a frequently interrupted night, Colleen calls the doctors office at 8:30am this morning and at 12:00pm she still didn’t get a call back. When she called back a second time, she was told our doctor was not in the office today and would she like to speak to a nurse. Except she was transferred into the practice’s voicemail system that could rival government or airlines bureaucratic phone tree. While we are quite fond of our doctor as an individual and practitioner, the practice is way too top heavy for the type of care we are looking for as new parents with an infant. If anyone has any recommendations of a pediatrician in the Sterling Heights area, please let us know.
After the night/morning Colleen and I needed to laugh a little bit so we are continually watching the following video. It never fails to bring a smile:
It has been a while since we updated this blog. We have been busy. Blair is quite the social butterfly and Colleen and I have been going in a bunch of different directions. School started back up for me, so I have been having to deal with classes which are going ok. The weather, for the most part, has been great and Colleen has been taking Blair to the zoo, park, and outdoor malls.
We joined a parents group through Beaumont. Once again, we can say enough good things about Beaumont and the programs that they offer for soon to be and new parents. The group meets every other Tuesday and it gives us a change to interact with other parents and see their kids. So far so good, although we have only had one meeting.
Thursday was a big day/night for us. I decided to give Colleen a break so Blair and I went to Grandmas for the night. It was the first night that Colleen was away from Blair and they both did excellent. Colleen went out on a date with Christina and apparently they had a great time. Blair was a perfect kid that night. She slept through most of the night and didn’t have any dramatic moments.
So, we will do our best to keep the site more updated. I have been encouraging Colleen to post on the site as well, so hopefully some other people will encourage her too.
